How to Change a 1995 Cheverolet 1500 Taillight

Changing the taillight on your 1995 Chevy 1500 series pickup takes just a couple minutes and requires only basic hand tools. The bulb used in the taillight is a 3157 bulb, available at any auto-parts store or through the Chevy dealership. If changing the bulb on one taillight, its a good idea to change the bulb on the other taillight at the same time. Since both bulbs can be expected to last about the same amount of time, youll be less likely to have another light burn out right after you change the first one.

Instructions

    1

Open the tailgate of your Chevy and locate the two mounting screws in the side of the bed just inboard of the taillight assembly. Remove the two screws with a Phillips screwdriver and set them aside.

    2

Pull the taillight assembly away from the body of the truck, locate the wiring harness connector on the rear of the assembly, and remove the plug by releasing the locking tab and pulling the connector free.

    3

Locate the bulb holder retaining bolts on the rear of the assembly. Remove the screws with a socket and ratchet, then separate the bulb holder from the taillight assembly. Pull the bulb out of the bulb holder and replace it with a new 3157 bulb.

    4

Position the bulb holder back on the rear of the taillight assembly, install the two retaining screws and tighten them with a socket and ratchet. Do not over-tighten the screws or you will crack the taillight assembly.

    5

Push the wiring harness connector into the rear of the taillight assembly, locking it into place. Position the taillight assembly on the truck body and install the two retaining screws, tightening them with a Phillips screwdriver. Close the tailgate.
