An on-board diagnostics system tracks when regular maintenance should b done on the Mercedes Sprinter Van. The system triggers a "Service Soon" light that appears on the Sprinters dashboard display when the vehicle needs to be serviced. The great thing about the Mercedes is that you dont need any special tools to reset the warning light. However, you do need to have the Sprinter serviced or do the work yourself before you can manually reset and turn off the vehicles warning light.

Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position, but dont start the engine. Look for the display between the tachometer and the speedometer on the instrument panel.

Press the button on the lower left part of the steering wheel. The display panel will tell you why the vehicle needs servicing.

Find and press the reset button on the left side of the instrument panel. Hold this button for three seconds.

Press the reset button again and hold it until the display says it has been reset. Turn off the vehicle and wait 60 seconds.

Turn on the engine and verify that the service light has turned off.

Turn off the Mercedes A Class and ensure the light selector switch is in the off position. Let the headlamps cool for several minutes if the vehicle has been running with the lights on. Headlamps operate at high temperatures and can burn you if you do not allow them to cool.

Remove the washer fluid reservoir to gain access to the drivers side headlamp. Twist the reservoir counterclockwise to release it from the mount, then pull straight up. Carefully set it to the side on a level surface to prevent fluid from leaking. This step is not needed for the passenger side headlamp.

Release the retaining lug by pressing down, then remove the outer housing.

Rotate the bulb holder counterclockwise and pull it straight out to remove it from the headlight assembly.

Remove the bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out. Be careful not to strike the bulb against any hard objects or it might shatter. Insert the new bulb in its place.

Carefully insert the bulb assembly into the headlamp housing. Lock it in place by rotating the bulb clockwise.

Flip the retaining hub up to lock the bulb in place.

The Mercedes Benz W126 is one of the first S-Class vehicles that Mercedes Benz produced. Manufactured between 1979 and 1991, the W126 had the longest production life of any of the S-Class vehicles to date. The ball joint of the W126 requires a specific removal tool that is more common today but was revolutionary during the early model-years of the W126.

Ball Joint Puller

The ball joint puller is a specialty tool that removes the ball joint from the steering mechanism (control arm) of the Mercedes W126. The C-shaped apparatus has two C-shaped portions, one that connects to the ball joint and one to the control arm. A machined screw with a turning nut attached to it connects the C-shaped pieces. A standard open-faced wrench is used to turn the screw of the ball joint puller, which loosens the ball joint from the steering rods.

Open-faced Wrench

An open-faced wrench is required to turn the fixed turning nut of the ball joint puller designed specifically for the W126. An alternative to the open-faced wrench is an adjustable wrench.

Impact Wrench

The impact wrench is a power tool with a torque-driven drill. An impact wrench will remove the wheel quickly from the W126, giving you access to the ball joint. At this point, the ball joint remover tools are used to disconnect the joint.

The Mercedes 320 is a four-door sedan. If you are having problems getting your 320 to start, there is probably something wrong with your fuel levels or your battery. The battery for the 320 is located in the trunk of the car. Jump starting your 320 is a good way to give the battery the spark it needs to charge properly. Adding gas to the fuel tank could also be the quick remedy you need.

Turn the key to your 320 to engage the fuel gauge. Look at the fuel level and determine if you need gas. Add gas as needed and then start the car. If the gas gauge doesnt come on, you probably have a problem with your battery.

Pop the trunk and locate the battery on the right side of the trunk. Connect the positive and negative clamps from your jumper wires to the positive and negative terminals on the battery.

Connect the other ends of the jumper wires to a running cars battery terminals. Start your 320.

Leave the 320 running for a little while so the battery can charge. Turn the car off and then try to restart the car.

Replace the battery if the car will not restart.
