Causes of Battery Drain in a 1969 Camaro

Almost all cars have the battery circuit in common. The battery drain on a 1969 Camaro will be related to the same causes as drain in a 2005 Explorer. In most circumstances, the drain is caused by short or open circuits, but other drains may be due to alternator failure, battery failure or improper battery maintenance.

Lights

    If the light switch is accidentally left in an on position it could cause the battery to die rapidly. Despite their small size, dome lights can consume a lot of power quickly and are easy to leave accidentally activated. The door may be ajar just enough to allow the spring-loaded switch to stay in the on position. Another problem with lights, especially in older vehicles, is a tendency of the brake pedal to sag a little against the retaining spring.

Worn Ignition Switch

    A worn ignition switch may allow the key to be removed while the ignition is still in the on position. It may appear that the ignition is properly off at a glance, but the slot is still slightly turned, allowing electricity to flow throughout the cars systems. Symptoms might include the key coming out of the ignition while the car is still running or blower fans still operating after the key is removed. Where the car radio is concerned, some are installed so that they operate independently of the ignition and may pose a battery drain risk for that reason alone if left on when the car is unattended.

Electrical Shorts

    The wiring harness may have weathered a bit on a 1969 Camaro, allowing wires to be rubbed against sharp surfaces. Over time this can cause the insulation to be stripped off the wire and short, or it could cause binding that eventually stretches the wiring to a breaking point. Other electrical shorts may be related to springs that have worn out in switches such as electric windows. The severity of the drain will depend on the type and conditions of the short, but even a minor short will cause battery drain over time.

Shorted Alternator Diode

    An alternator is a charging system for your battery. To prevent the electricity from flowing back to the alternator when the engine is off, a special blocking diode is installed. If this part fails, power flows back from the battery to the alternator and may even reach other systems that are directly connected in the circuit.

Battery Problems

    Car batteries get old and stop functioning as well. If a cell goes bad in the battery and cannot hold a charge, it could create a constant internal drain on the battery as current is pushed through the dead zone. Another common problem is when a battery is not properly maintained and corrosion builds up on the terminals. This prevents the alternator from supplying a charge current, and allows the battery to drain as electrical systems are used.

What Are the Causes of a Burnt Motorcycle Clutch?

The clutch on a motorcycle is what the rider uses to change gears as he rides. Clutches can burn out, which basically means that they wear out and no longer work the way that they should. The clutch works by causing friction between two metal plates that have grooves. When these grooves get worn down, it causes the clutch not to work as well.

Defective Clutch

    If the motorcycle clutch is defective in any way, it will not work properly. A defective clutch will cause the motorcycle to either simply stop working or to burn out due to improper wear. If this is the case, you will generally notice it within the first ride or first few rides.

Regular Wear and Tear

    A rider can do everything properly with motorcycle and clutch maintenance, but most things wear out or wear down eventually, and so too will the motorcycle clutch. Ensuring your clutch is adjusted correctly and lubricated is important, but the clutch will still wear out, depending on the use of the motorcycle. The general time frame to check or change the clutch is about 50,000 miles.

Driver Error

    If a rider "rides" the clutch, she will wear it out faster than normal. Riding the clutch means that the rider keeps the clutch pushed in a little on a constant basis, which will weaken the clutch, the springs and other parts on the clutch. The clutch on a motorcycle is on the handlebars of the bike as opposed to a car, which has the clutch next to the brake pedal on the floor. A motorcycle rider who keeps his fingers pushing on the clutch lever is riding the clutch.

Steep or Rough Terrain

    If the primary area that the motorcycle is used in is hilly or rough and causes a lot of starting and stopping, it will cause the clutch to burn out faster. Shifting up and down, depending on ascending or descending landscape, makes the clutch work harder and more often.

How to Prevent the Causes of Thrust Bearing Failure

The thrust bearing is part of a vehicle transmission system. When the thrust bearing fails or does not work properly, it can cause problems for the vehicle. Preventing the failure of a vehicle thrust bearing can minimize problems and ensure the vehicle runs smoothly for a longer period of time.

    1

    Check the torque converter. According to GNT Type, when the torque converter has too much pressure on it, the converter will balloon and put pressure on the bearing. Checking and maintaining the torque converter will minimize the risk of too much pressure.

    Get the thrust bearing alignment checked. Another potential problem with the thrust bearing that causes failure is misalignment. Having a regular check of the thrust bearing alignment will minimize the risks of alignment problems and prevent thrust bearing failure.

    Lubricate the thrust bearing regularly. Inadequate lubrication results in wear and tear on the thrust bearing. Persistent inadequate lubrication can cause early failure of the bearing. By adding lubrication on a regular basis, the thrust bearing is protected from wear and tear.

    Look over the bearing and make sure the shells are installed. When the thrust bearing is changed in a vehicle, the bearing shell is also changed. If the shell is not present, it results in problems for the bearing and ultimately failure. Always check that the shells are installed when the bearing is changed.

What Causes Fish Eyes in Car Paint?

The term "fish eye" refers to a tiny crater that can form on a cars paint job during or after the car is repainted. Several substances can cause fish eye, but the main way to avoid these craters from forming on your cars finish is to be sure to clean your car thoroughly before painting it. Protect the car during the painting process, and ensure that nothing gets onto the paint. There are also additives for car paint, but these can cause other problems.

Skin Oil

    Reduce the risk of contaminating your cars paint job with skin oil by washing your hands or wearing latex gloves. Even brushing up against the cars paint with your arm can transfer enough skin oil to cause fish eyes to form when you spray the next layer of paint onto the car.

Tool Oil

    Oil and lubricants from sanders or other tools you use on your car between layers of paint poses the same risk as skin oils. Clean your car thoroughly between coats of paint and maintain your power tools regularly to ensure they do not leak fluids onto your fresh paint.

Engine and Road Fluids

    Just as with other types of oily liquids, engine fluids and oil from roads can cause fish eyes to form on your cars paint if you do not remove the fluids properly before painting your car. Clean your car thoroughly before painting it and do not run the engine until you have completed all of the painting.

Silicone

    Silicone is found in car waxes and some cleaning products. Silicone is a slippery fluid that mimics oil if it gets onto your paint job before you paint the next layer. You can remove silicone with the same products that clean other oily substances from the car.
