How to Reset the Air Bag Lights in a 1995 Nissan Sentra

How to Reset the Air Bag Lights in a 1995 Nissan Sentra

You can reset the airbag light on your 1995 Nissan Sentra without the aid of any special tools. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) light will illuminate on the instrument panel when there is a malfunction with the airbag assembly. When this light turns on, have the vehicle towed to a mechanic rather than risk driving it. Theres always the chance the airbag will accidentally deploy while you are driving it. When the problem has been repaired, shut off the SRS light yourself.

Instructions

    1

Look for and open the fuse panel cover. You can find it underneath the steering column. Pull down on it from the top using your fingers.

    2

Find the yellow plug. This is the electrical connector for the airbag system. Pull this plug out of the panel.

    3

Wait 10 minutes, then secure the yellow plug back in place. Put the fuse panel cover back on.

    4

Put the key into the ignition and start the engine. Look at the instrument panel to verify that the SRS light has turned off.

Transmission Problem With Nissan Titan

Transmission Problem With Nissan Titan

On Aug. 9, 2004, Nissan North America notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it would begin recalling certain 2004 Nissan Titans due to a transmission problem that could affect more than 5,000 vehicles.

Defect

Certain Nissan Titan pickups equipped with column shifters may have been equipped with a part that was damaged during assembly. A defective shift lever assembly could cause potentially dangerous transmission problems in these vehicles.

Risk

Damage to the shift lever assembly could result in a malfunction of the part responsible for holding the lever in the park position.

Solution

Nissan began notifying registered vehicle owners affected by the recall in September 2004. Authorized dealers were instructed to inspect and replace defective column shifters. Titan owners experiencing transmission problems may contact Nissan or the NHTSA with their vehicle identification numbers to determine whether their trucks might have been affected.

My 1990 Nissan 300Zx Wont Start

My 1990 Nissan 300Zx Wont Start

The 300ZX is a sports car that is manufactured by Nissan. If you are having problems starting your 300ZX, you can troubleshoot the issues before you spend money on a mechanic. Typical problems occur with the cars battery and fuel levels. There are certain factors that will determine what you need to do to get your engine running again. These are if the ignition does not turn over, if the engine will not crank, and if the engine does crank.

Instructions

Ignition Wont Turn

    1

Check the key that you are using and make sure it is the correct one for your 300ZX.

    2

Try starting the 300ZX with a different key. Duplicated keys can fail to turn over the ignition.

    3

Turn your 300ZXs steering wheel from side to side while you are starting the ignition. The steering wheel could be locked up.

Engine Will Not Crank

    4

Open the 300ZXs hood and check the battery terminal connections. Make sure that you have the negative connection and positive connections on the correct battery terminals.

    5

Clean any corrosion off the terminals with baking soda and a wire brush, then reattach the cables to the battery terminals.

    6

Charge the battery with a pair of jumper cables and another car battery.

    7

Replace the battery if it cannot hold a charge.

    8

Check the alternator with an experienced mechanic.

Engine Cranks

    9

Check the fuel level in the car.

    10

Refill the car with fuel if there is an insufficient level of fuel.

    11

Open the hood of the car and check the spark plug for corrosion. Clean off the corrosion with a rag and baking soda.

    12

Check the timing belt for cracks or breaks. Replace the timing belt if necessary.

How to Turn Off the Service Light on a 1997 Nissan Pickup

It can be scary when you are driving and your "service engine soon" (SES) light comes on. There are multiple issues that can cause the light to come on. While some may be simple, others may be a big problem. There is no way to tell for sure at the moment what is wrong unless your Nissan is also acting funny.

Instructions

    1

Check your gas cap. This is a very common issue that triggers an SES light in Nissans. If the gas cap isnt sealed properly or if it was opened while the truck was running, the light will come on. Replace the cap if necessary. If you took the cap off when your engine was running, you can reset the SES light by disconnecting and reconnecting your battery cable.

    2

Diagnose the problem with your vehicle by using a universal code reader. This machine reads the error code your truck is giving, and tells you the corresponding problem for that code. Taking it to a mechanic is always an option, but this usually costs money. Take your truck to an auto parts chain and have your SES diagnostic done for free.

    3

Use the universal code reader by putting your truck into its diagnostic test mode. Turn your ignition on, but do not crank the engine. Depress and fully release the gas pedal five times quickly within five seconds. Wait seven seconds and push the gas pedal down and hold it for 10 seconds. This should cause the SES light to start blinking. Let off the gas pedal. The number of blinks (for example, one blink equals "1," five blinks equals "5," ten blinks equals "0") tells you what error code you have. You can then look it up. After you have your results, hold the gas pedal down for 10 more seconds to erase the memory and reset your SES light.

How to Reset the Airbags in a Nissan 350Z

Some models of the Nissan 350Z are equipped with driver and passenger side air bags that rely on sensors within the car to determine when they should be deployed. The internal computer system continuously tracks the state of the airbag sensors to make sure they are working properly. If the computer detects a potential problem with the airbag system, an airbag warning light is displayed. After the air bag system is inspected and it is determined it is functioning properly, the air bag system will need to be reset. In many cases, the light is on because the connection between the airbags and the computer has been interrupted and needs to be reestablished.

Instructions

    1

Turn the ignition on. The airbag light will come on.

    2

Turn the ignition off as soon as the air bag light turns off.

    3

Repeat the above steps three additional times.

    4

Start the engine. The light will come on for about six seconds and then turn off, indicating the airbags have reset.

How to Replace the Car Keys for a 2007 Nissan Versa

The 2007 Nissan Versa came with two key options: A regular transponder-chipped key that opens the doors and starts the engine, or an Intelligent Key that allows you to open your car door or press the start button to turn the car on. Both types of keys can be replaced at a Nissan dealership. In addition, if you add extra car keys, you have to bring any keys you already have with you to be reprogrammed. Otherwise, the keys will not work again.

Instructions

    1

Call your local Nissan dealer to make an appointment to come in with your vehicle or to find out if you can simply stop in during service department hours.

    2

Go to the Nissan USA website to locate a local dealer if you do not know the phone number. Under the "Shop & Locate" menu on the bottom of the page, choose the "Find a Dealer" option. Put in your zip code in the space provided and click the search option. Choose a dealer to call from the results page.

    3

Tell the service representative that you need to replace your keys. Go to the dealer with your keys at the appointed time, or drop by during business hours if you dont need an appointment.

    4

Tell the service department representative how many keys you want to purchase. You can add up to four Intelligent Keys or five chipped keys.

    5

Give all of your Versa keys to the service representative. Wait while the keys are set up for your car. Pay the service representative and make sure that all the keys work before you leave.

How to Replace a Headlight Bulb on a 2004 Nissan Maxima

The 2004 Nissan Maxima offers two options for headlights (halogen or Xenon), so verify which kind your car has installed before purchasing replacements. The halogen bulb is a Style 9012 bulb rated at 55 watts, while the xenon is a 35-watt, Style D2S bulb. The bulbs are available from the dealership or through most auto parts stores. The two bulbs are not interchangeable, so if you are unsure which type your car has, remove one and check the part number stamped on the base of the bulb socket.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood of your Maxima and locate the negative battery terminal on the top of the battery. Loosen the clamp bolt that secures the negative battery cable end to the battery, using a wrench, then remove the cable and isolate it from the battery.

    2

Locate the large, round cover on the back of the headlight assembly, then rotate the cover counterclockwise to release it from the headlight assembly. It will only turn about -turn before it comes loose.

    3

Find the retaining spring just inside the access hole, behind the cover. Release the retaining spring by pushing it in slightly, then pivot the clip aside until it is out of the way. Grasp the bulb socket and turn it counterclockwise -turn to unlock it from the headlight assembly, then extract it from the rear of the housing and discard it.

    4

Insert the new bulb and socket into the headlight assembly and rotate it clockwise until it locks into place -- again, about -turn. Pivot the retaining spring over the rear of the bulb and socket, then hook the spring under the tab on the housing to secure it.

    5

Replace the large, round cover on the rear of the headlight assembly, rotating it clockwise until it is secure. Move over to the opposite headlight and repeat the process, changing the second headlight bulb, as well.

    6

Position the negative battery cable end on the negative battery terminal and tighten the clamp bolt with a wrench. Turn the bolt clockwise until the cable end does not move around on the terminal; any more than that can damage the terminal.

How to Wire a Fuel Pump on a 1984 Nissan 300 ZX

The Nissan 300ZX is a sports car manufactured by Nissan from 1984 to 1996 in the United States. The 1984 Nissan 300ZX has a 6-cylinder 3.0-liter engine, and some models have turbocharged engines. All versions of this vehicle use fuel injection, which requires a highly-pressurized fuel system. The fuel pump in the 1984 Nissan 300ZX is within the fuel tank, so you must remove it to install the fuel pump.

Instructions

    1

Start the engine and disconnect the fuel pump relay in the fuse box. Wait for the engine to stall, and attempt to start the engine three more times to ensure you have completely relieved the pressure in the fuel system. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2

Disconnect the electrical connectors for the fuel gauge and fuel pump in the trunk. Place a hose into the fuel tanks filler tube, and siphon as much fuel as possible into a gasoline container.

    3

Detach the ring for the fuel filler neck on the fuel tank with a socket wrench, and remove the right rear wheel. Disconnect the protectors for the fuel filler tube protectors and the fuel lines to the fuel tank.

    4

Support the fuel tank with jack stands, and loosen the bolts for the retaining straps on the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel tank and remove it from the vehicle.

    5

Turn the retaining ring for the fuel pump counterclockwise with a hammer and brass drift. Remove the retaining ring, and lift the fuel pump out of the fuel tank.

    6

Install the new fuel pump by performing steps two through five in reverse order. Replace the relay connector in the fuse box, and fill the fuel tank. Start the engine, and check for fuel leaks.

2003 Nissan Altima Repair Tips

The 2003 Nissan Altima is not known for its performance, but it is known for its longevity. Consumer review of the Altima generally give high marks for reliability. However, there are a few repairs that are commonly needed on this vehicle. These repairs can prolong the use of the 2003 Nissan Altima and let you drive it you many years.

Headlight Issues

The 2003 Nissan Altima has been known to have corrosion problems of the reflective surface on the interior of the head lamps. This has since been recalled and can be repaired at your local Nissan dealership at no charge. If you would like to repair this yourself, open the hood and remove the Phillips screw on the side of the headlamp thats on the outside top of the headlamp. Place the screwdriver on the inside of the headlamp between the turn-signal light and the headlamp and pry outward; the headlamp should pop out. Twist the headlight bulb counterclockwise to remove the bulb from the headlamp. Install the headlight into the new headlamp and reinsert the entire fixture. Make sure that the clip on the grill side of the headlamp clicks into the groove, then install the Phillips screw.

Loose Interior Door Panels

As the Nissan ages, the door panels sometimes pop loose. Gently pry the door panels back with a flathead screwdriver to see which of the rivets has broken. Remove the broken rivet and match it at an auto parts store with a new one. Install the rivet into the panel slot on the door. Push the rivet into the hole and give the area that the rivet is in a good hit with the palm of your hand. This allows the rivet to fully insert into the hole and the end to expand, holding the panel in place.

Smoking Muffler

If the muffler seams like there is something burning in it, this just may be the case. A recall was issued on 2003 Nissan Altimas because of a muffler hanger pin that caught road debris and could cause the material to ignite, thus igniting the catalyst as well. This dangerous situation can be repaired at a Nissan dealership, or by taking a pair of pliers and bending the pin upwards as it will no longer catch on the road.
