Cam Shaft Tools

The camshaft is a steel or iron shaft that engages with the crankshaft via a timing chain to operate the valves that sit over each piston in sequence with piston movement. This shaft runs along the cylinder bank with egg-shaped lobes on it, each set at difference angles. Intake and exhaust valves open and close as the camshaft turns and the lobes engage the pushrods, which connect to the valves. Camshaft tools allow for the aligning of the camshaft among other things.

    This kit is for both Ford passenger cars and pickup trucks and it is compatible with engines with both eight and 10 cylinders. This tool allows for accurate timing of the camshaft. If the camshaft is timed incorrectly, your motor may still run, but it will cause your engine control module to overcompensate for the error. This causes a vehicles gas mileage and overall performance to suffer and it could cause the check engine light to come on. The set includes four positioning tools for different model vehicles.

    The Universal Camshaft Bearing Tool is a set of tools that allow you to remove the bearings on your camshaft. This tool set works with all types of vehicles, including passenger cars and heavy trucks. It also works on bearings from 1.125-inches to 2.69 inches and it comes with rubber sleeves for use when driving wall bearings. These sleeves work in conjunction with the expander. The brown sleeves are for thin wall bearings and the black sleeves are for thick wall bearings. The set includes five split driving plugs, a driving shaft, driving shaft extension, two driving collars, expander unit, carrying case and centering cone.

Camshaft Locking Tool

    The camshaft locking tool fits between the camshaft sprockets and holds them in place while working on other systems. This is especially necessary when changing out the timing belt or chain. This prevents the camshaft from moving out of position. This is especially important to ensure the engine works and runs smoothly upon reassembly.
