What Is a 4Runners Oil Pan Plug Torque
Toyota started manufacturing the 4Runner in 1984 and still makes this SUV as of 2010. The oil pan sits at the base of the engine and serves as a reservoir for engine oil as it circulates throughout the valves and crankshaft.
In-Line Four Cylinder Engine
Tighten the oil pan bolts for four-cylinder engines up until 1984 to 4.5 foot-lbs. or 54 inch-lbs. For vehicles made from 1985 on, tighten the bolts to 9 foot-lbs. or 108 inch-lbs.
V6 Engine
Most 4Runners in the United States have a V-6 engine. Tighten this engines oil pan bolts to 4.3 foot-lbs. or 52 inch-lbs.
Removing the 4Runner Oil Pan
Removing the oil pan on a 1979 to 1985 4Runner can prove tricky, as it requires separating the front stabilizer bar, leaf springs, shock absorbers and front driveline, then lowering the front axle assembly to create enough clearance. On later models, you must separate the front differential mounts and lower the axle assembly to create enough clearance.
