How to Assemble an Auto Mirror

A cars side mirrors are easily damaged. Car owners routinely back out of tight spaces and break the mirrors, or the mirrors get smashed in collisions. With as much abuse as side mirrors get, its a good thing theyre easy to replace. Replacing your auto mirror with a new side mirror will enhance the look of your car and make it safer to drive. You can assemble the auto mirror with just a few simple tools and a couple of hours.

Instructions

    Determine whether your car has automatic side mirrors or manual mirrors. Order a replacement mirror from a local auto parts shop.

    Remove the mirror trim panel on the inside of the door. This can be done with a panel remover lever or a screwdriver. If your car has automatic side mirrors, you will need to remove the door panel as well. Locate the fasteners on the door panel and unscrew or pop the door panel out of place.

    Unscrew the old side mirror from the door with a screwdriver. There should be three mirror mounting screws. Remove them and set them aside in a safe place.

    Remove the electrical connector from the old side mirror if your car has automatic side windows. The cable will extend down into the door. Locate the electrical connector and pull apart the connection.

    Remove the old side mirror and discard.

    Thread the electrical cable for the new side mirror through the hold in the mirror. Slip the cable into the electrical connector in the door. You can skip this if you have manual side mirrors.

    Screw the new side mirror into place with the three mirror mounting screws and a screwdriver. Turn on the car and test the mirror to ensure it works correctly.

    Replace the door and mirror trim panels. The panels should either pop or screw back into place.
