2002 Chevy Malibu A C Problem
The Chevy Malibu is a mid-size sedan that was introduced in 1963. Models built in recent years come equipped with either a six-speed or a four-speed automatic transmission. The 2002 Malibu was offered with a four-speed transmission and a choice of a 2.4-liter or a 3.1-liter engine. Although the 2002 Chevy Malibu is affordable and offers solid features, it tends to experience several problems with the air conditioning.
Fan Failure
According to the CarComplaints.com website, some 2002 Chevy Malibu owners have reported problems with the air conditioning fan not working on every setting. Some drivers have complained that although the fan has five settings, it only works on the fifth setting and not the others. The fan failure mainly occurs when the heater is on rather than the air conditioning.
Recirculating Air
Owners of the 2002 Malibu has also posted reports on the CarComplaints.com website involving a number of problems with the cars recirculating air function. Some owners have reported that the recirculating air option randomly turns off and switches to fresh air.
Intermittent Shut Offs
Other 2002 Malibu owners have complained that the A/C does not work even though the A/C light is on. Some have also complained that the air conditioning suddenly shuts off after it was working and does not turn back on.
Solution
Before you pay for any repairs on your 2002 Chevy Malibu, its a good idea to have an auto shop run a diagnostic on the air conditioning unit. This should cost between $72 and $91 dollars. Fan failure and intermittent A/C problems often can be remedied by replacing the A/C control head. According to Auto Recalls for Consumers, a new control head for the 2002 Malibu costs approximately $310 for parts and labor.

How do I Change the O2 Sensor on a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe
The 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe is equipped with two oxygen (O2) sensors within the exhaust system. Designed to control the fuel consumption based on the oxygen in your cars exhaust, the oxygen sensors thread into the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter of your Santa Fe. When the cars fuel economy begins to decrease significantly, you may need to replace the oxygen sensors. Buy replacement sensors from an auto parts retailer and change them at home in minutes.
Instructions
- 1
Raise the Santa Fe with a jack and support it on a set of jack stands. Locate the oxygen (O2) sensors along the exhaust system.
2Pull the electrical connection from the top of the oxygen sensor. Remove the existing sensor with an oxygen sensor socket and ratchet.
3Thread the new oxygen sensor into place by hand to avoid the risk of cross threading and damaging the sensor. Torque the sensor to 40 pound-feet with your torque wrench. Push the electrical connector back into place until it clicks.
4Repeat the process on the second sensor, if needed. Raise the car slightly with the jack to remove the jack stands. Lower the car to the ground.

How to Replace a Headlight on a 2002 Trans Am
Unlike many other 2002 vehicles, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am used sealed -beam headlights for both low and high beams. This is largely due to the muscle cars "flip-up" headlight doors. The benefit is that the headlights are easier to change than some. The low beam headlights on the Trans Am are located closest to the side fenders and the high beam headlights are located closest to the vehicles grill.
Instructions
- 1
Turn the headlight switch to the on position. When the headlight doors open, turn the headlight switch back one turn to the parking light position. Leave the switch in this position for the remainder of the procedure.
2Remove the three trim panel screws (one on top and two on each side) that surround the dual headlights using the Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the trim panel and set it aside face up to avoid scratching it.
3Remove the four screws (two on top and two on bottom) on the faulty headlight retaining bracket. Inspect the screws before attempting to remove them. The screws are located near each upper and lower corner of the bracket. Do not turn the screws at the top center above the headlight or on the center side of the headlight. These are headlight adjusting screws.
4Pull the headlight out far enough to grasp the three-pronged plug connected to the back of the sealed beam headlight. Unplug the connection from the headlight.
5Install the replacement headlight by plugging it into the three-pronged wire harness (making sure the words and numbers stamped on the outer headlight lens are in the upright position) and then place the headlight into its hole.
6Replace the retaining bracket and screws to hold the headlight into place.
7Test the headlight by turning the headlight switch back to the on position. Turn the headlight switch back to the parking light position.
8Replace the trim panel and retaining screws.

Installation Instructions for a Fuel Pump in a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban
The Chevrolet Suburban has been in continuous production since 1935. The 2002 model was a sport utility vehicle that also had other marketing names such as the GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade. This vehicle had several choices of engines, all of which had fuel injection. The fuel pump in the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban installs into the fuel tank. You must theore remove the fuel tank from the vehicle to install the fuel pump.
Instructions
- 1
Disconnect the cable on the negative terminal of the battery to avoid starting the engine accidentally. Remove the filler cap for the fuel tank to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank. Wrap a shop towel around the fuel pressure fitting on the fuel rail and attach a fuel pressure gauge to the fitting. Connect the bleed hose to the pressure gauge and place the open end of the bleed hose into a container approved for gasoline. Open the fuel pressure gauge to relieve the pressure in the fuel system. Remove the fuel pressure gauge from the fitting.
2Place one end of a hose into the filler tube of the fuel tank and place the other end into the gasoline container. Siphon as much fuel as possible from the fuel tank into the container.
3Disconnect the filler pipe and fuel lines from the fuel tank. Support the fuel tank with jack stands and remove the bolts for the fuel tank straps with a socket wrench. Disconnect the fuel tank straps and lower the fuel tank slightly so you can disconnect the harness clip from the cross member and the electrical connections from the fuel tank. Lower the fuel tank completely and remove it from the vehicle.
4Turn the retaining ring for the fuel sender assembly counterclockwise with a fuel tank sending wrench. Remove the retaining ring, and detach the fuel sender assembly from the fuel tank. Discard the gasket on the fuel tank. Pull the fuel strainer from the fuel sender assembly and discard the strainer.
5Detach the electrical connector for the fuel pump. Release the retaining clip for the fuel sensors electrical connector and detach the fuel sensors electrical connector. Release the retaining clip for the fuel level sensor and remove the fuel level sensor.
6Install the new fuel pump and gasket by reversing steps two through five. Tighten the bolts for the fuel tanks retaining straps to 30 ft. lbs. with a torque wrench. Tighten the bolts for the cross member to 37 ft. lbs. Fill the fuel tank and replace its filler cap. Connect the cable for the negative terminal on the battery with a socket wrench. Turn the ignition on for two seconds, then turn it off for 10 seconds to pressurize the fuel system. Turn the ignition back on and check for fuel leaks.

How to Open the Door to a 2002 Saturn With Locked Keys in the Car
Your 2002 Saturn is a nice car; unfortunately, you cant drive it at the moment because youve locked your keys inside it. The mechanics at a Florida Saturn dealership caution against attempting to retrieve them on your own. While you may have seen your parents use a wire or metal hanger at some point to unlock their own cars to retrieve locked-in keys, this technique may damage the inside of the door frame and is not highly recommended by Saturn. However, if you find yourself in this situation and need to retrieve your keys, exercise caution attempting to jimmy the lock of your 2002 Saturn with a wire hanger.
Instructions
- 1
Check all of your windows and doors to see if its your lucky day and one is down or unlocked. Your driver door might be locked, but one of the others might not have locked, making retrieving your keys very simple.
2Bend a wire hanger or similarly sized object to create a hook or triangle shaped handle.
3Push the hanger down in between the door frame and the window. As gently as possible, use the hanger to find the switch for the door lock. Late-model cars have more power equipment, so Saturn recommends exercising caution.
4Pull the hanger until you find the door lock and hear the locks click open.

How to Change Headlights in 2002 Town and Country
The 2002 Chrysler Town and Country uses an integrated two-filament headlight to supply both low and high beams in one unit. The halogen headlight lights at excessive temperatures from the internal gases inside the bulb. Consequently, contact with the glass with hands, perspiration or dirt will damage the bulb. Avoid contact with the replacement bulb or clean the bulb with distilled alcohol and a clean cloth. The procedure to replace the bulb in the Town and Country is the same as the Dodge Grand Caravan.
Instructions
- 1
Park the Town and Country on a level surface, apply the parking brake, make sure the headlight switch is off and open the hood.
2Locate the three upper headlight assembly retaining bolts on top of the assembly support bracket. They form a triangular pattern with two of the bolts on top of the inboard side of the assembly and the last one near the outer corner of the assembly near the directional light.
3Remove the three bolts with the socket wrench.
4Pull the headlight assembly forward and rest it on a clean shop rag on the front bumper. The rag will help prevent scratching the bumper.
5Disconnect the electrical connector behind the headlight assembly that plugs into the headlight socket. Use the screwdriver to gently lift upward on the locking clip (at the top of the plug) of the plug and pull the connector away from the socket.
6Turn the headlight retaining collar counter-clockwise to remove it and access the headlight. Pull the headlight out of the headlight assembly.
7Place the 9007 automotive replacement bulb into the headlight assembly (being careful not to touch the glass bulb). Align the three notches on the socket base of the headlight to the three grooves in the headlight assembly and then replace the retaining collar (turning it clockwise to lock it into place).
8Test the headlight for operation before reinstalling the headlight assembly and retaining bolts.

How to Replace an Oxygen Sensor in the 2002 Hyundai Sonata
You might need to replace the oxygen sensors on your 2002 Hyundai Sonata if you notice your fuel consumption increasing, or if your "check engine" light illuminates. The oxygen sensor measures the amount of oxygen being expelled through the exhaust and adjusts the fuel necessary to meet certain oxygen levels. You have two sensors, one in the manifold and one inline with the catalytic converter. Remove both in the same manner.
Instructions
- 1
Locate the oxygen sensor in the exhaust manifold or the exhaust pipe next to the catalytic converter. It resembles a spark plug and has one thin wire extending from it. Use the replacement sensor for a visual aid.
2Push in on the lock on the wire harness at the top of the sensor. Pull the wire off.
3Remove the sensor with a deep well socket or wrench. Due to the extreme heat generated in the manifold and exhaust pipe, it is common for the sensor to become stuck. If necessary, use spray-on rust breaker such as liquid wrench to aid in the removal process.
4Place a small amount of anti-seize compound on the threads of the new oxygen sensor and thread the sensor back into the manifold or tail pipe.
5Push the connector of the wire back onto the oxygen sensor.

How to Make Replacement Keys for a 2002 Saturn
Youve lost or misplaced the keys to your 2002 Saturn and are understandably frustrated. Replacing them doesnt have to be a great hassle. Since Saturn uses transponder or "coded" keys that emit a frequency specially attuned to your cars ignition, youll have to order a set that will be not only cut but programmed. A new set is as near as your Saturn dealership or a reputable automotive locksmith. If you are unable to travel to a dealership, an automotive locksmith can meet you on site with your new keys.
Instructions
- 1
Call the dealership and see how much it will charge you for a new set of keys. The keys will have to be found in inventory, cut and then coded for your particular car. Once you get a price, do a little comparison shopping.
2Call a reputable automotive locksmith, preferably one recommended by your auto mechanic or through a listing with the Better Business Bureau. A reputable locksmith will more than likely give you a lower price quote than the dealership.
3Place your order for your keys with a vendor. Expect it to take four hours to get a set of keys from a dealership and less than that from an automotive locksmith. If you are unable to travel to the dealership, a locksmith is by far the best choice as he will bring the key to you and test it in your ignition.

How to Change an Oxygen Sensor on a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer 4WD V6
The V6 4.3-liter engine of the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer has four oxygen sensors that monitor the fuel-to-air ratio and the catalyst efficiency. Locating the correct oxygen sensor or sensors to replace may be more challenging than actually replacing them. Keep in mind that the bank one sensor is on the same side as the number one cylinder, and the two sensors one (1) are on the front pipe just below the manifold. The two rear sensors are on the passenger side of the SUV; one placed in front of the catalytic converter and one directly behind it. These are referred to as sensors two (2).
Instructions
- 1
Drive the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer up onto two car ramps, and then apply the parking brake.
2Place a wheel block behind one of the rear tires.
3Put the safety glasses on, and crawl underneath the Blazer with the remaining items.
4Locate the oxygen sensor(s) you intend to replace. The two front ones are located in the front Y-pipe of the exhaust system towards the front of the engine. There is one per side of the Y-pipe. The other two are located before and after the catalytic converter (which is just behind the Y-pipe towards the center of the vehicle on the passenger side).
5Spray the threads of the oxygen sensor with penetrating lubricant, and allow it to soak in for a few minutes.
6Follow the wire harness from the oxygen sensor to the plug connection. Use a small forked pry tool to unseat the retaining tab of the plug connection from the frame or undercarriage of the SUV. Disconnect the wire harness plug.
7Place the plug of the sensor through the box-end side of the 22-mm or 7/8-inch wrench, and then place the wrench onto the hex-headed portion of the sensor.
8Turn the sensor counterclockwise using the wrench. A quick jerking motion of the wrench should loosen the sensor effectively, but if necessary, start the engine for a couple of minutes to warm up the exhaust system and expand the binding metals of the pipe and sensor. Be careful that it will not heat up the front Y-pipe sensors because they can become hot enough to burn you.
9Thread the new replacement sensor into the exhaust port by hand as far as it will allow. Tighten the sensor to 30-foot pounds with a torquing hand wrench. Do not over-tighten the sensor, or you will damage the threads.
10Reconnect the wire harness of the replacement sensor to the plug connection, and then push the retaining tab back into its respective hole in the frame or undercarriage.

How to Check the Error Codes for the 2002 Toyota Corolla
You can check the error codes on your 2002 Toyota Corolla from your garage, saving you time and money. The 2002 Toyota Corolla comes standard with an On-Board Diagnostics II computer (OBD II) that retrieves and stores all codes sent to it from sensors positioned throughout the car. When these sensors find a problem with the car, they send the code to the OBD II computer which, in turn, lights up a warning or service light on the instrument panel. You can retrieve these codes with a small, computerized device called an OBD II code scanner, which you can purchase at any auto parts store.
Instructions
- 1
Locate a port on the under side of the drivers side dashboard. It is near the steering column.
2Plug the OBD II code scanner carefully into this port.
3Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position. Dont crank the engine.
4Wait while the code scanner powers on. Some scanners need to be turned on manually with a switch. If so, turn it on.
5Select "Retrieve Codes" or a similar command. Wait for the scanner to interface with the vehicles computer, then write the alphanumeric codes down on a piece of paper.
6Look up the codes in the scanners manual to find out their meaning. Unplug the code scanner and take the vehicle to be serviced or repaired by a qualified mechanic.
